Overview
Masherbrum, previously referred to as K1, is a peak located in the Ghanche District of Pakistan's Gilgit Baltistan area. Rising to a height of 7,821 meters (25,659 feet), it ranks as the 22nd highest mountain in the world. It is acknowledged as the 9th tallest mountain in Pakistan. Importantly, Masherbrum has the distinctive honor of being the first peak to be surveyed in the renowned Karakoram mountain range. Situated in the Karakoram Range, particularly in the Masherbrum subrange, this mountain captures attention with its impressive stature and breathtaking beauty. While Masherbrum Peak is frequently eclipsed by its nearby 8000-meter counterparts such as K2 and Gasherbrum I, it has its own charm and offers unique challenges for climbers.
Weather
Masherbrum presents a challenging and brutal environment, characterized by frigid temperatures and strong winds throughout the year. In July, the average temperature hovers around -10 °C, while the average wind speed is approximately 20 knots. During the winter months, temperatures can drop to -40 °C or even lower, with wind speeds soaring up to 100 knots. The weather tends to be unpredictable, with abrupt shifts in temperature and wind speeds, making it crucial for anyone planning to trek in Masherbrum to be thoroughly prepared and experienced.
Climbing Routes:
The typical approach to Masherbrum Peak (7821m) begins from the Hushey Valley in Baltistan. The climb requires a two-day hike starting from Hushe, which leads to the lush landscape of Masherbrum Base Camp at 3500m. The conventional route from the Southeast is marked by four high-altitude camps.

Historical Attempts:
Masherbrum is one of the most challenging mountains to summit at elevations exceeding 7,500 meters, with only four successful ascents recorded thus far. It ranks as the 22nd tallest mountain globally and the 11th tallest in Pakistan, boasting a prominence of 2,457 meters. Located in the Baltistan region, it features some of the highest peaks in the Central Karakoram. As the highest point in the Masherbrum Mountains, a sub-range of the Karakoram which also encompasses Chogolisa (7,665 meters) and K6 (7,281 meters), it is positioned directly south of the main central ridge.
Masherbrum, also referred to as K-1, stands as another impressive peak within the Karakoram Range in Pakistan. Mountaineers find Masherbrum to be an exciting challenge to conquer. Numerous climbers have made attempts, yet only a select few have successfully reached the summit.
The initial attempt to scale Masherbrum, which stands at 7821 meters in Pakistan, was undertaken by James Waller and his team in 1938; however, they were compelled to turn back due to deep snow at an elevation of 7600 meters. In 1960, a Pak-American expedition led by Dr. George Bell achieved success by reaching the summit.
