Haramosh Peak (7,409 m), also known as Peak 58, is a major mountain of the Karakoram Range in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. It lies about 65 km east of Gilgit and forms part of the Rakaposhi–Haramosh Mountains, a rugged subrange of the Karakoram. The mountain rises sharply above the north bank of the Indus River, creating extreme vertical relief from valley floor to summit, which is a defining feature of the region.
The Haramosh massif consists of two principal summits: Haramosh Peak and Haramosh Kutwal Laila Peak, separated by complex ridges and glaciated terrain. The area is characterized by steep rock faces, hanging glaciers, and avalanche-prone slopes, making it technically demanding and relatively less climbed compared to nearby giants like Rakaposhi or Nanga Parbat.
Haramosh Peak was first ascended in 1958 by an Austrian expedition (Heini Roiss, Stephan Pauer, and Dr. Franz Mandl). Since then, it has remained a challenging objective for experienced mountaineers rather than a commercial climbing peak. Its remote location, severe weather, and difficult access routes contribute to its reputation as one of the wilder and more formidable mountains of the central Karakoram.
