Route Via Skardu
Range Karakoram

Overview

K2, the second-highest mountain in the world at 8,611 meters (28,251 feet), is one of the most dangerous and difficult peaks to climb. Located in the Karakoram Range on the Pakistan-China border, it is known as the "Savage Mountain" due to its extreme conditions and technical challenges. Unlike Everest, K2 has no easy route, with steep rock faces, ice-covered slopes, and unpredictable weather making every ascent a fight for survival. Sudden snowstorms, high winds, and temperatures dropping below -40°C (-40°F) add to the risks, while the lack of oxygen near the summit makes climbing even more deadly.

First conquered in 1954 by Italian climbers Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni, K2 remains one of the least climbed 8,000-meter peaks. Its success rate is much lower than Everest, and many experienced climbers have lost their lives attempting to reach its summit. The mountain’s sharp ridges, massive glaciers, and breathtaking scenery make it one of the most awe-inspiring yet unforgiving places on Earth.

Unlike the crowded routes of Everest, K2 offers true isolation, testing climbers at every step with its treacherous terrain. The journey to K2 begins with a trek through the Baltoro Glacier, passing iconic peaks like Broad Peak and the Gasherbrums before reaching the daunting mountain itself. Each ascent requires months of preparation, advanced technical skills, and the ability to withstand extreme conditions. Its raw beauty and deadly reputation make it a legendary goal for mountaineers, attracting only the most skilled and determined climbers.
